Winning – Is it everything?
It’s a little late, but I finally watched the final table for the main event last night, yes Jamie Gold is an ass, but he won. The question is what did he really win? He won a nice lawsuit for shooting off his mouth, really is that a surprise? He won the main event, for playing with deception, and getting people to call when he had the hands, he also got phenomenal cards and flops, so does every luck box. In a way the Jamie Gold win, while it broke record books, did nothing but show that mouthy luck boxes can win poker, and look really, really bad doing it.
The behavior at the WSOP and on the internet has seriously deteriorated, I like what the farmer said to the guy that was criticizing his play, in essence, “I’ll play my game, you play yours.”
I have been guilty of responding to people that criticize me on the tables, and I agree with the farmer, leave me alone, if I donk off my chips, that is my choice. The class has left the game, and I think that many of the lousy behaviors have to do with the popularity of poker, and the need for ratings. It’s more fun to watch people make fools of themselves, however, it’s not a role to follow, and that is the mistake.
Doyle Brunson was honored for many different things at the WSOP, why? He is classy all the time, so are many other pros.
It is about winning, but it is more about how you win, than anything else
